Actuarial talent, valuations & risk optimisation

Actuarial rigor, applied to talent and to risk.

Actuarants is an actuarial practice spanning specialist recruitment, insurance finance optimisation, IFRS 17 / IFRS 4 valuation, and employee benefit valuations — for insurers, reinsurers, and plan sponsors who need the detail right, not just fast.

What we do

Four practices, one actuarial standard.

We didn't start as a generalist firm that added actuarial services — every engagement, whether it ends in a hire or a report, is run by people who think like actuaries.

Practice 01

Actuarial Recruitment

Specialist placement of credentialed actuaries and quantitative risk professionals, vetted on technical substance before you see a resume.

  • Life, P&C, Health, Pensions, Capital Modeling
  • Contingency, retained & contract search
Practice 02

Insurance Finance Optimisation

Frequency-severity modeling, Monte Carlo loss simulation, and reinsurance structure comparison to optimize how risk is retained or transferred.

  • Loss distribution fitting & simulation
  • Reinsurance tower & retention analysis
Practice 03

IFRS 17 / IFRS 4 Valuation

Measurement of insurance and reinsurance contracts under IFRS 17 (General Measurement Model, Premium Allocation Approach, Variable Fee Approach) and IFRS 4, for insurers preparing for or already reporting under the new standard.

  • CSM & risk adjustment roll-forwards
  • IFRS 4 comparison & transition support

Practice 04

Process

How a search runs, start to finish

01

Discovery call

We map the role against your team structure, technical requirements, and hiring timeline before sourcing begins.

02

Targeted sourcing

We draw on our actuarial network and active outreach — not job-board applicants — to build a shortlist.

03

Technical vetting

Candidates are assessed on relevant methodology, tooling, and exam progress before you see them.

04

Interview coordination

We manage scheduling and feedback loops so your team's time goes to evaluation, not logistics.

05

Offer support

We assist with negotiation and onboarding to reduce the risk of a late-stage fall-through.

What we check

Technical vetting, before a resume reaches you

Every candidate is screened against the specifics of the role, not a generic actuarial checklist.

—Exam progress and designation status (FSA, FIA, ASA, FCAS)
—Reserving and pricing methodology experience
—Capital modeling platform proficiency (Prophet, MoSes, Igloo, R/M-Squared)
—Programming fluency: Python, R, SQL, VBA
—Regulatory framework exposure (IFRS 17, Solvency II, NAIC)
—Communication fit for stakeholder-facing roles

Beyond talent — technical actuarial consulting

Three standalone advisory offerings, delivered by practicing actuaries rather than career recruiters, for teams that need the analysis itself rather than the person to run it.

How a consulting engagement runs

01

Scoping call

We define the question — a retention decision, a reinsurance comparison, a valuation date — and the data we'll need from your team.

02

Data & assumption review

We validate the claims, census, or exposure data and agree assumptions before any modeling begins.

03

Modeling & analysis

Simulation, structure comparison, or valuation work is run and checked against benchmark results.

04

Board-ready reporting

Findings are delivered as a clear report with sensitivity testing, not just a spreadsheet of outputs.

What's included

Standards we hold every engagement to

—Assumption setting benchmarked against current market data
—Loss, liability, or obligation modeling with documented methodology
—Structure or plan design comparison, not a single fixed answer
—Sensitivity and scenario testing on key assumptions
—Board- and auditor-ready documentation
—Direct access to the actuary who ran the analysis

Tools

Run a valuation yourself, or hand us the data.

Free-to-use working tools from our Employee Benefit Valuations and IFRS 17 / IFRS 4 Valuation practices — built on the same methodology we use in client engagements. Upload your own data, or explore with a sample dataset first.

Tool 01

Gratuity Valuation Tool — AS 15 / Ind AS 19

Upload an employee census and generate a full actuarial gratuity valuation report using the Projected Unit Credit method — methodology, assumptions, DBO reconciliation, sensitivity analysis, and disclosures, formatted for financial reporting under AS 15 (Revised) and Ind AS 19.

Tool 02

IFRS 17 / IFRS 4 Insurance Contract Valuation Tool

Measure a group of insurance contracts under the General Measurement Model, Premium Allocation Approach, or Variable Fee Approach — CSM and risk adjustment roll-forwards, liability build-up, onerous-contract detection, sensitivity analysis, and a side-by-side IFRS 4 comparison with a liability adequacy test.

A note on these tools

Indicative, not a substitute for certification

The gratuity tool applies the Projected Unit Credit methodology required under AS 15 and Ind AS 19, but uses a simplified illustrative mortality basis rather than the published IALM table. The IFRS 17 / IFRS 4 tool implements a simplified, single-discount-rate build of the General Measurement Model, Premium Allocation Approach and Variable Fee Approach, for a single cohort at a time. Statutory financial statement disclosure requires the relevant valuation to be certified by a qualified actuary. For a certified valuation, or to discuss your plan's or portfolio's specific assumptions, get in touch.

About Actuarants

An actuarial practice, not just a recruiter.

Actuarants started as a recruitment specialist and grew into a broader actuarial practice — because the same rigor that identifies the right candidate for a technical role also holds up when we're modeling retained risk or valuing a benefit obligation.

We work exclusively with insurers, reinsurers, consultancies, and pension funds — across talent, insurance finance optimisation, IFRS 17 / IFRS 4 valuation, and employee benefit valuations — bringing one actuarial standard to all four.

Engagements, cumulative — practice growth since founding
How we work

Principles we don't compromise on

01 / specificity

Actuarial-only focus

We work only in actuarial and quantitative risk — across talent, valuation, and capital decisions. Nothing outside it.

02 / evidence

Checked before it reaches you

A shortlist or a model output has already been checked against the technical substance of the question — not just keyword- or template-matched.

03 / transparency

No black box

You get visibility into sourcing progress or modeling assumptions throughout an engagement, not just a result at the end.

04 / fit

Rigor over speed

A fast placement that leaves in six months, or a valuation that misses an assumption, costs more than getting it right the first time.
